Marie Ann Tetreau
SANFORD, Maine - Marie Ann "Louise" Tetreau, 77, of Main Street, died Tuesday, June 15, 1999, at the Maine Stay Nursing Home after a lengthy period of illness.
Born July 28, 1921, in Sanford, she was the daughter of Fred and Anna Gould Foster. She was educated in Sanford schools. She lived in Sanford since August 1998, moving from Sonoma, Calif., where she lived for 25 years.
A homemaker, she enjoyed doing embroidery, traveling and golfing. She was a communicant of St. Ignatius Church.
She was the wife of Joseph H. Tetreau for 57^4 years.
In addition to her husband, survivors include a daughter, Sally Ann Rancour of Arvada, Colo.; two sons, David Henry Tetreau of Kektovik, Alaska, and Joseph Henry Tetreau Jr. of Mittawan, Mich.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Gloria H. Capone
HAMPTON - Gloria H. Capone, 75, of 7 Quinlan Lane, died suddenly Monday, June 14, 1999, at Exeter Hospital.
Born March 13, 1924, in Portsmouth, she was the daughter of Achille and Caroline (Caruso) Capone. She was a resident of Portsmouth before moving to Hampton 22 years ago.
Before retiring, she was the owner of Muffi's Breakfast House in Hampton for 23 years.
She was a former member of Portsmouth Country Club and was a communicant of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church. She was also an avid swimmer.
Survivors include a daughter, Gloria Auger of Hampton; three grandchildren, Rachel Auger, Melissa Boner and Richard Lathrop; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Margaret Brodhead of Greenland and Mary Carlton of Portsmouth; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a son, Richard Lathrop.
Ray Paul Jones
RYE - Capt. Ray Paul Jones, USN retired, of 385 Washington Road, died Monday, June 14, 1999, at the University of Massachusetts Memorial Hospital in Worcester, Mass., after a long battle with cancer.
Born July 22, 1929, in Mobile, Ala., he was the son of the late William Early Jones and Willie Ray Jones. He was a 1947 graduate of Alcee Fortier High School in New Orleans. He was a 1951 graduate of Tulane University in New Orleans with bachelor's degree in zoology; and a 1970 graduate of George Washington University in Washington, D.C., with a master's degree in business administration.
A career Naval officer for 30 years, he served two years on a destroyer off Korea and 15 years as a member of the submarine force, including two years as commanding officer of USS Blueback. He served tours of duty at the Pentagon; headquarters of U.S. European Command in Stuttgart, Germany; the University of Kansas as professor of military science; and at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, where he was administrative officer and commanding officer in charge of enlisted personnel. He retired from the Navy in 1981.
He was an avid sailor and trombone player. As a young man, he played in jazz groups in the French Quarter of New Orleans, including an impromptu session in front of Louis Armstrong.
He also loved to repair antique clocks, going into business in his Rye home as "The Clock Doctor." Among his hobbies were fishing, travel, reading and working on his computer.
He was a member of the Portsmouth Rotary Club, the Portsmouth Propeller Club, the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors, and the Portsmouth Country Club. He served on the vestry of St. John's Episcopal Church, and on former U.S. Sen. Gordon Humphrey's selection committee for U.S. Military Academies.
He was the husband of Marlene Jones for 45 years.
In addition to his wife, survivors include three daughters, Leslie Sandra of Cedar Falls, Iowa; Lynnelle Susan and her husband, William Lipschutz of South Norwalk, Conn., and Christine Elizabeth and her husband, Donald Thompson, of Bedford, Mass.; three grandchildren, Lynnelle Marie, Philip Byron and Scott Alexander, of Bedford; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a sister, Lynnelle.
