Louise M. Rand
RICHMOND, Vt. - Louise M. Rand, 94, a longtime resident of Portsmouth, died Wednesday, July 28, 1999, at Green Mountain Nursing Home in Colchester, Vt.
Born Aug. 14, 1904, in Skowhegan, Maine, she was the daughter of Maurice and Martha (Holden) Mitchell. She had been a resident of Brownway Residence in Richmond since June of 1994.
She was a first-grade teacher in Portsmouth for 25 years. She was an active member of the North Congregational Church of Portsmouth for years, and served on various committees. She was member of the New Hampshire Retired Teachers Association and the Portsmouth Garden Club. She was an ardent gardener and had beautiful flower gardens of her own. She was also fond of bird watching.
She was the wife of Clifton Rand, who died in 1970.
She is survived by two daughters and their spouses, Marilyn and James Toner of Jericho, Vt., and Priscilla and Leslie Young of Tempe, Ariz.; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Eleanor McLaughlin of Portsmouth, in 1993; and a sister, Mildred DeButts of Portsmouth, in 1986.
