Roland L. McCann

PORTSMOUTH - Ronald L. McCann, 53, of 175 Middle Road, died Sunday, Sept. 19, 1999, at the Boston Medical Center in Boston, after a brief period of illness.

Born July 5, 1946, in Boston, he was the son of the late Francis and Ethel (Mills) McCann and grew up in Lancaster, Mass. He was a graduate of Cushing Academy Class of 1964 in Ashburnham, Mass. He went on to graduate from Boston College with the Class of 1968.

A resident of Portsmouth for the past 22 years, he was employed as a Manufacturers Sales Representative for the Emerson-Swan Company of Randolph, Mass. for more than 10 years.

Roland was a loving husband and devoted father who enjoyed golfing, skiing, music and cruising in his Cadillac. He was a member of the Church of the Immaculate Conception.

He was the husband of Susan (Foley) McCann for 31 years.

In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, Jay Roland McCann and his wife, Kristie (Cello) McCann, of Bloomfield, Conn.; a daughter, Kristin Elizabeth McCann, of Portsmouth; a nephew, H. Edward McCann, of Kennebunk.

He was predeceased by a sister, Grace (McCann) Mayo.

Yvette L. Morton

BRIDGTON, Maine - Yvette L. Morton, 89, died Saturday, Sept. 19, 1999, at the Northern Cumberland Memorial Hospital in Bridgton, Maine following a brief period of illness.

Born in Hamnor, Quebec, she was the daughter of Pierre and Melanie Courtois LaRose. She came to Maine as a young girl and attended schools in Biddeford.

Mrs. Morton was a linotype operator who was employed by LaJustice News in Biddeford, The Portsmouth Herald, The Strawbery Banke Print Shop, and as a staff member at the University of New Hampshire for 11 years until her retirement in 1972.

She lived in Rye Beach for many years. She had been a summer resident of Bridgton since 1936. She became a permanent resident there in 1997.

She enjoyed bowling and listening to music.

She was the husband of William B. Morton for 68 years.

In addition to her husband, survivors two sons, Philip W. and his wife, Marie, of Milton, Vt., William R. of Portsmouth; a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Priscilla) Cilley of East Rochester; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Marjorie L. Boardman

GREENLAND - Mrs. Marjorie "Midge" Lorraine (Chick) Boardman, 72, of 38 Tuttle Lane, died Sunday, Sept. 19, 1999, at the Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

Born March 21, 1927, in Portsmouth, she was the daughter of George Raymond and Bertha Louise (Shaw) Chick.

She was a 1945 graduate of Portsmouth High School and a member of the Reunion Committee for the Class of 1945. She was a member of the Greenland Community Congregational Church and a member of the Women's Alliance of the Church.

She had been employed as a Food Service Administrator for the Portsmouth School System and the Mark Wentworth Home.

She was the wife of Harland "Boardie" L. Boardman for 51 years.

In addition to her husband, survivors include a daughter, Carol L. Hanscom and her husband, Lincoln Hanscom, Jr., of Pembroke, N.H.; two sons, Raymond W. Boardman and his wife, Gayle, of Limington, Maine and Stepher L. Boardman and his wife, Tracy, of Buxton, Maine; seven grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; a sister, Priscilla "Robin" Sargent, of Freedom, N.H.; and several nieces and nephews.

Renee M. Chick

DOVER - Renee M. Chick, 32, of Dover died unexpectedly at her home on Monday, Sept. 20, 1999.

Born on Feb. 9, 1967, in Pequannock, N.J. she was the daughter of Carol J.(Rollins) Yergeau and Ronald A. Manseau Sr.

She had lived in Kittery for several years before moving to Dover.

She worked many years at the Coachman Inn in Kittery and most recently for the Tie Plaza at the Fox Run Mall in Newington.

This past May, she graduated Phi Theta Kappa from McIntosh College.

Survivors include her parents; her daughter, Danielle M. Muscarello of St. Petersburg, Fla.; three sons, Daniel A. Chick, Jr., Christopher M. and Andrew J. Chick of Dover; a brother, Ronald A. Manseau, Jr. of Belmont, N.H.; three sisters, Nancy J. Manseau of Palmetto, Fla., Anna L. Parker of Somersworth, and Angelo D. Chick of Kittery.

Mary Welch

HAMPTON - Mary (McLaughlin) Welch, 72, died Saturday, Sept. 18, 1999, at Exeter Healthcare after a lengthy period of illness.

Born Oct. 23, 1926, in Manchester, she was the daughter of Charles and Ethel (Warner) McLaughlin. She was a graduate of Manchester West High School and the Sacred Heart School of Nursing.

Until her retirement in 1980, she worked as a registered nurse at St. Joseph's Infant Asylum, Sacred Heart Hospital, and Catholic Medical Center. After retiring, she moved to Hampton and worked at Exeter Hospital, Exeter Healthcare, and at Country Manor Nursing Home until 1994.

Survivors include two sons, Thomas J. Welch Jr. and his wife, Linda (Weber) Welch of South Danville, N.H., and James J. Welch and his wife, Sharon (Testa) Welch of Portsmouth; two daughters, Mrs. Peter (Kathleen) Bouffard of North Andover, Mass., and Sharon A. Welch of Buena Park, Calif.; five grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a son, Richard Welch.

Olive M. Langley Ring

HAMPTON - Olive M. Langley Ring, 87, of 3 Pawnee St., died Sunday, Sept. 19, 1999 at Exeter Healthcare.

Born Nov. 1, 1911, in Manchester, she was the daughter of the late John and Eva (Dyer) Wood.

Mrs. Ring was a graduate of Manchester Central High School and attended Emerson College in Boston.

With her husband, she owned and operated Seaside Village Motel for 35 years and was also a real estate agent for many years. More recently, she worked for Jeanette's Sea Shore Shoppe in Rye Beach.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Hampton Monday Club, Orient Chapter No. 22 O.E.S. of Exeter and was active with the local and state Republican Party.

After her retirement, she wintered in Florida for many years.

She was the wife of the late Donald A. Ring for 52 years. She was also predeceased by a son, Donald L. Ring.

She is survived by two sons, E. Errol Langley and his wife, Vicki, of Vero Beach, Fla., and Jay A. Ring and his wife, Peppa, of Hampton; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Iona M. Barker Cash

PORTSMOUTH - Iona May Barker Cash died Monday, Sept. 20, 1999, at the Edgewood Centre in Portsmouth after a long period of illness.

Brn Oct. 22, 1926, in Naples, Maine, she was the youngest daughter of Irving and Eva Barker.

She attended Naples Elementary School and Bridgton (Maine) High School.

During World War II, Iona worked as a welder. She married Francis Cash _ a sailor _ in 1945 and moved with him to Annapolis, Md.

They returned to Maine in 1946 and worked at a mill. Their only son, Daniel, was born in 1947. The Cash family lived in Fryeburg, Maine, and Mexico, Maine, and worked at various shops in the area.

The family moved to Florida in 1969, where Iona worked at a fish farm. She and her husband opened a boarding home for the elderly in Tampa. Iona moved to New Hampshire in 1985 following the death of her husband.

She is survived by her son, Daniel F. Cash of Bridgton; two grandchildren, Daniel F. Cash, Jr., and Heather Denise Cash; many nieces and nephews; and a sister, Zydana Spiller of Casco, Maine and Portsmouth.

She is predeceased by her husband; her brother, Almon Barker of Naples; and a sister, Dorothy Mader of Naples. She is survived by her son, Daniel F. Cash of Bridgton; two grandchildren, Daniel F. Cash, Jr., and Heather Denise Cash; many nieces and nephews; and a sister, Zydana Spiller of Casco, Maine and Portsmouth.

Francis L. Chicoine

WILLIMANTIC, Conn. - Francis L. Chicoine, 82, died Sunday, Sept. 19, 1999, in Windham Hospital in Willimantic, Conn.

Born Aug. 31, 1917, in Livermore Falls, Maine, he was the son of the late Louis N. and Exilia M. (Bernard) Chicoine.

In his youth, Mr. Chicoine proudly served in the Civilian Conservation Corps and later, in the Army Air Corps during World War II, teaching French to pilots.

In 1960, he moved to Portsmouth where he was employed in the Naval Shipyard for many years. More recently, he was an employee at the Department of the Navy as a superintendent of shops in Hunters Point, Calif. He retired several years ago.

He was a member of the American Legion in St. Cloud, Fla., the American-Canadian Genealogical Society, the Senior Citizens of Jackson Street and was a communicant of St. Mary Church in Willimantic. Mr. Chicoine was an avid golfer and loved to sing and play his keyboard.

He was the husband of Serene (Desaultels) Gamache.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons, Gary and Kenneth Chicoine of Portsmouth, Mark Chicoine of Columbus, Ohio, and William Chicoine of Stickney, Ill.; five daughters, Gloria Chicoine of Linden, N.C., Marie Brown of Portsmouth, Anna Hanley of Lee, Margaret Roy of Eliot, and Natalie Hansen of Fairfield, Iowa. He also leaves 14 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Other survivors include a sister, Rena Reynolds of Gloucester, N.J.; three stepbrothers, Albert Bernard, Gerard Bernard and Francis Bernard; and a stepsister, Arlene Castonguay. All are from Livermore Falls.

He was predeceased by a brother, Roland Chicoine, and a sister, Valerie Crossen.

Robert P. Potter

NORTH BERWICK - Robert P. Potter, 53, died Saturday, Sept. 18, 1999, at his residence.

Born July 19, 1946, in Portsmouth, he was the son of Calvin A. and Priscilla (Gobbi) Potter. He attended schools in Kittery, and graduated from Traip Academy in 1966.

He was a Army veteran who served in Vietnam and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9394 of Eliot.

He was employed at New Hampshire glass for more than 30 years.

He enjoyed camping, hiking and boating.

He was the husband of Barbara (Briggs) Potter.

In addition to his wife and his mother, survivors include two daughters, Rebecca M. and Priscilla L. Potter, both of North Berwick; three brothers, Calvin Potter of Eliot, Thomas Potter of Valdosta, Ga., and Daniel Potter of Parsonsfield, Maine; two sisters, Priscilla Strout of Savannah, Ga., and Constance Hand of Wells; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a sister, Charlotte Busby, who died Jan. 2, 1999.
