Barbara Withem-Garner
PORTSMOUTH - Barbara (Slate) Withem-Garner, 48, died unexpectedly Sunday, Jan. 9, 2000, at her home in Tracy, Calif.
She was born in Amesbury, Mass. on May 20, 1951, the daughter of Sidney and Annie (Fowler) Slate.
After marrying seven years ago, she moved to California.
She resided for 41 years in the Seacoast area, attending school in Hampton. She also lived in Exeter, Rochester and Somersworth.
Her love in life was animals, which includes her Siamese cats. Her wish was to open a home for stray cats and dogs.
She is survived by her husband, John Garner of Tracy, Calif.
In addition to her husband, survivors include one son, Frank Trembley; two grandchildren in Deerfield; two sisters, Eva Call of Dover and Colleen Hodges of Berwick; and one brother, Sidney Slate Jr.
Services will take place in Tracy, Calif.
Minerva P. Grace
PORTSMOUTH - Minerva P. Grace, 84, of Harvest Village in Berlin, N.J. died Saturday, Jan. 8., 2000, at the Virtua West Jersey Hospital.
She was born in Andover, Maine and spent her summers in Sanford. She and her husband, Ronald E. Grace, formerly of Portsmouth, wintered in Tavares, Fla.
Before retiring in 1970, she worked in the Human Resources department for RCA in Camden, N.J. for 20 years.
She was a member of the Reserve Officer Association of Ladies.
She is survived by her husband.
In addition, other family members include a daughter, Barbara Craft of Cherry Hill, N.J.; two grandchildren; and two sisters, Barbara Meisner of Tavares, Fla., and Patricia Waters of Simsbury, Conn.
