Evelyn K. Kearnes
EXETER — Evelyn K. Kearnes, 90, of Stoneybrook Lane, died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000, in Exeter Hospital after a lengthy illness.
She was born April 7, 1910, in Exeter, the daughter of the late Albert and Delia (White) Denoncour and was a lifelong resident of Exeter.
She attended Robinson Female Seminary.
Mrs. Kearnes was a fancy stitcher for Wise Shoe Co. for many years.
She was a communicant of St. Michael Church, Exeter.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, George E. Kearnes of Exeter; three grandsons; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Eldora Morel of Brentwood and Anne Fortier of Exeter; one brother, Eldon Denoncour of Exeter; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by one daughter, Mona DeSimones, who died in 1975; one brother, Albert Denoncour; and one sister, Veronica Demasky.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. in St. Michael Church, Exeter. Burial will follow in Exeter Cemetery, Exeter.
Arrangements are by the Brewitt Funeral Home, Exeter.
Gladys E. Leclerc
NEWBURYPORT, Mass. — Gladys E. Leclerc, 82, died Monday, Oct. 9, 2000, at Port Healthcare, Newburyport.
She was born May 25, 1918, in Byfield, Mass., the daughter of the late Albert and Sarah (Lord) Allard. She resided in Salisbury, Mass., for many years, moving to Raymond in 1978.
She was a 1937 graduate of Amesbury (Mass.) High School.
Mrs. Leclerc worked for the former Welpro Shoe Co., the Bailey Corp. in Seabrook, and at Hytron Industries in Newburyport during World War II.
She was a member of Exeter United Methodist Church; Jo Bridges Line Dancers; the United Methodist Women's Association; and the Ray Scwatzer Card Club in Hampton.
She enjoyed bowling.
She is survived by one daughter and her husband, Linda C. and Richard Wessant of Salisbury; two grandchildren; one great-grandson; one brother, Clarence Allard of Salisbury; and several nieces and nephews.
Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements are by the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, Hampton.
Nancy H. Newick
NEWINGTON — Nancy H. (Buswell) Newick, 76, of 34 Fabyan Point Road, died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2000, at her home.
She was born April 9, 1924, in Newburyport, Mass., the daughter of the late J. Merton and Harriet Edna (Currier) Buswell.
She attended the Jacob F. Spaulding Elementary School was a 1942 graduate of Amesbury (Mass.) High School and attended Salem Commercial School for Accounting.
Mrs. Newick was employed for the Amesbury Electric Light Co., in the 1940s.
She was a member of the Salisbury Methodist Episcopal Church, Salisbury, Mass.
She is survived by her husband, George J. Newick of Newington; one son and his wife, John W. and Jill Newick of Stratham; three grandchildren; one sister, Eleanor Morse of Florida; two nephews; three grand-nephews and one grandniece.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Newington Cemetery, Newington.

Katherine Welch
EXETER — Katherine (Cracknell) Welch, 84, died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2000, at Exeter Healthcare. following an extended illness.
She was born in Hamilton, Mass., the daughter of the late George and Katherine (Shea) Cracknell and lived in Topsfield, Mass., most of her life.
Mrs. Welch was a cafeteria worker at Masconomet Regional High School for several years.
She was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church, Topsfield.
The widow of Edward T. Welch, who died in 1985, she is survived by two sons, George Welch of Stockton, Calif., and Thomas Welch of Alaska; one daughter, Linda G. Thayer of Exeter; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by one sister, Georgina Cracknell.
Friends may call Tuesday from 8:30 to 10 a.m. at the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot St., Beverly, Mass.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. in St. Rose of Lima Church, Topsfield. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Topsfield.
Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.
Laura M. Abrahamson
RUTLAND, Vt. — Laura M. Abrahamson, 91, died Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2000, in Rutland Regional Medical Center.
She was born July 5, 1909, in Boston, the daughter of William and Emma Wright.
She was a graduate of Newton (Mass.) High School.
The widow of Howard J. Abrahamson, who died in 1977, she is survived by one son, Howard R. Abrahamson of South Chittenden, Vt.; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Lumbert of Exeter; and several nieces and nephews.
There are no calling hours or funeral services.

Evelyn N. Callahan
HAMPTON — Evelyn N. Callahan, 95, died Friday, Oct. 6, 2000, at her home after a period of failing health.
She was born July 22, 1905, in Canada, the daughter of the late Roy C. and Hattie J. (Naves) Nesbitt and had resided in Lauderdale Lakes, Fla., and Exeter before moving to Hampton six years ago.
Mrs. Callahan was employed with Alrose Shoe Co. for several years and at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard during World War II.
She was a member of Christ Church Episcopal, Exeter, and the WWI Barracks Auxiliary.
The widow of Matthew J. Callahan Sr., who died in 1975, she is survived by one daughter-in-law, Gwen J. Callahan of Exeter; four granddaughters; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Margaret N. Brown of North Hampton and Josephine N. Dining of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by one son, Matthew J. Callahan Jr., who died in 1996; and two sisters, Viva N. Brown and Todd N. Carter.
There are no calling hours.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Christ Church Episcopal, 43 Pine St., Exeter. Burial will follow in Exeter Cemetery, Exeter.

Helen F. Colliander
HAMPTON — Helen F. Colliander, 77, of 7 Colby St., died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2000, at Exeter Healthcare.
She was born June 10, 1923, in Winchester, Mass., the daughter of the late John D. and Anna F. (Burke) Swymer. She had resided in Whitesboro, N.Y., and Holderness before moving to Hampton in 1975.
She was a 1940 graduate of Winchester High School.
Mrs. Colliander was a secretary for H.P. Hood Co. in Charlestown, Mass., and had previously worked for John Hancock Insurance Co. and at Winchester High School.
She was a daily communicant of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church. She was a member of the Catholic Women's Club and a former member of the Friends of Lane Memorial Library. She belonged to a local ladies bridge group for more than 20 years and performed volunteer services at Exeter Hospital and for various church groups.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Ralph T. Colliander; one son, John D. Colliander of Hampton Falls; three daughters, Linda J. Webb of Portsmouth, Gail F. Mears of Gilford, and Janet M. Martel of South Berwick, Maine; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert Swymer and Frederick Swymer, both of Woburn, Mass.; one sister, Judith Duke of Salem; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, Hampton. Burial will be in High Street Cemetery, Hampton.

Dorothy W. Dungan
EXETER — Dorothy W. Dungan, 82, of RiverWoods, died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000, at RiverWoods.
She was born Nov. 17, 1917, in Staunton, Va., the daughter of the late Robert and Helen (Winfree) Apgar and was raised in Charleston, W.V. She resided in Chatham, N.J., for many years before retiring to Exeter in 1998.
She was a graduate of Charleston High School and attended Duke University, Durham, N.C.
Mrs. Dungan was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution; a Sunday school teacher; and a den mother for the Cub Scouts while living in Chatham.
She was an avid bridge player and transcribed books into Braille.
The widow of Merrill R. Dungan, who died in July, she is survived by one son and his wife, Stephen Dungan and Pamela Weathers of Stow, Mass.; one daughter and her husband, Linda D. and William Morse of Dunbarton; five grandchildren; and one brother, Robert Apgar Jr. of San Diego, Calif.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at RiverWoods of Exeter. Private burial will be in Thornrose Cemetery, Staunton.

Francis R. Earthrowl Jr., M.D.
NEWTON, Mass. — Francis H. Earthrowl Jr., 77, died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2000, in Newton-Wellesley Hospital.
He was born Oct. 11, 1922, in Springfield, Mass., the son of Francis H. and Ruth (Harris) Earthrowl, and was a longtime resident of Newton and North Hampton.
He was a 1948 graduate of Tufts University.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and served with a M.A.S.H. unit in Korea.
Dr. Earthrowl was a surgeon at Newton-Wellesley Hospital, Glover Memorial Hospital, Needham, Mass., and Framingham Union Hospital, Framingham, Mass., for more than 40 years. His specialty was general surgery/subspecialties, abdominal, hand surgery and emergency medicine.
He was a member of the American College of Surgeons; the American Medical Association; the Massachusetts Medical Society; the Charles River District Medical Society; the American Board of Emergency Medicine; the American Board of Surgery; the American Society of Surgery of the Hand; the American Society of Abdominal Surgeons; the American Cancer Society; the Boston Surgical Society; and the American College of Emergency Physicians. He was a founding member of the American Trauma Society.
He was a former member of the Brae Burn Country Club and the Charlesgate Yacht Club.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Ruth M. (Sawyer) Earthrowl; three daughters and their husbands, Anne E. and Joseph McDonough of Needham, Mass., Pamela D. and Mark Kazes of Bradford, Mass., and Elizabeth C. and Richard Carlson of Weare; four sons, Francis H. Earthrowl III and his wife Lory of Lempster, Jonathan R. Earthrowl of Salem, N.Y., Richard P. Earthrowl of Cambridge, Mass., and Frederick C. Earthrowl of Newton; 11 grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; three sisters, Elenor Lathum of Worcester, Mass., Mary-lou Lewis of Honolulu, Hawaii, and Kathleen Earthrowl of Kingwood, Tex.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the Eaton Funeral Home, 1351 Highland Ave., Needham. Burial will be in Newton Cemetery, Newton.
Charles E. Harte
PORTSMOUTH — Charles E. Harte, 78, of 225 Colonial Drive, died Friday, Oct. 6, 2000, in Huggins Hospital, Wolfeboro, after a sudden illness.
He was born March 16, 1922, in Fall River, Mass., the son of Edward and Mary (Doherty) Harte. He had resided in Portsmouth since 1952 and was a summer resident of Ossippee Lake for many years.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
Mr. Harte was employed at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard for 30 years retiring in 1981 as supervisor of Shop 51.
He was a communicant of St. James Church, Portsmouth, and was a member of the American Legion Post No. 6 and the Disabled American Veterans.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Edith M. Harte; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Mary Harte of New Castle, Joan Harrington of Somersworth, Jean and Bob Lerch of Exeter and June and Glen Palmer of Greenland; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Beverly Graham of Haverhill, Mass., and Carol Brogna of Fitchburg, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by five brothers, Edwin, Neil, Robert, William and Michael Harte.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Monday in St. James Church, Portsmouth. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the Meals on Wheels Program, 245 Middle St., Portsmouth, NH 03801.
