George M. Atkins Jr.
EAST GREENWICH, R.I. — George M. Atkins Jr., 71, of Woodland Road, died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2000, at his home.
He was born in Springfield, Mass., the son of the late George M. and Mae E. (Ward) Atkins Sr., and lived in East Greenwich for three years, previously living in West Springfield, Mass.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War, serving with the 1st Marine Division Medical Corps.
He was a 1950 graduate of the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy.
Mr. Atkins was a registered pharmacist and owned and operated the C.E. Drugstore Inc. in West Springfield for 30 years, retiring in 1992.
He was active with the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy alumnus; a member of the 1st Marine Division Association; and a former member of the West Springfield Rotary Club.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret E. (Bourque) Atkins; one son, George M. Atkins III of North Hampton; two daughters, Kathy J. Baker of Portsmouth, R.I., and Kristine Gallogly of East Greenwich; seven grandchildren; and one sister, Marian Troy of Hollywood, Fla.
He was predeceased by three brothers, Donald, Richard and James Atkins.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Hill Funeral Home, 822 Main St., East Greenwich. Military burial will be in Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter, R.I.
Herschel B. Burt
EXETER — Herschel B. Burt, 73, of 93 Linden St., died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2000, at his home.
He was born July 8, 1927, in Waltham, Mass., the son of the late Edwin B. and Violet V. (Groves) Burt and had resided in Exeter for many years.
He was educated in Waltham schools and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Mr. Burt was the owner of Deep Meadow Estates and Deep Meadow Variety in Exeter.
He was a member and trustee of Exeter United Methodist Church; a member of the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors; and a trustee of the Willard House Clock Museum, Grafton, Mass.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Thelma M. (Ketchen) Burt; two sons, Thomas B. Burt and Steven H. Burt, both of Exeter; two daughters, Holly L. Colcord of Exeter and Judy V. Colella of North Hampton; 19 grandchildren; one sister, Marjorie Liebried of Brentwood; and several nieces and nephews including Edwin Burt of Epping and Gerald Burt of Newmarket.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Stockbridge Funeral Home, 141 Epping Road, Exeter.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Exeter United Methodist Church, 307 Epping Road, Exeter. Private burial will be in Exeter Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Exeter United Methodist Church Building Fund, 307 Epping Road, Exeter, NH 03833.
Daniel K. Connors
HAMPTON — Daniel K. Connors, 77, of 2 Hutchinson Drive, died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000, in Exeter Hospital.
He was born Jan. 28, 1923, in Newport, the son of the late Daniel and Bernice (Kendall) Connors. He resided in Lancaster before moving to Hampton in 1967.
He was a graduate of Lancaster High School and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
Mr. Connors was a lineman and installer for New England Telephone Co. for 34 years.
He was a life member of the National Rifle Association; a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of Lancaster; the American Legion Post No. 35 of Hampton; and the Exeter Sportsman's Club.
He was an avid hunter, fisherman and enjoyed gardening and woodworking.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Marguerite J. "Pete" (Ramsey) Connors of Hampton; three sons and their wives, Michael R. and Kathy Connors of Hampton Falls, Brian C. and Vicki Connors of Nottingham and Daniel G. and Tricia Connors of Conway; five grandchildren; three great-grandsons; and several nieces and nephews.
There are no calling hours. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Richard A. Jacunski
EXETER — Richard Alexander "Dick" Jacunski, 83, died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2000, at SunBridge Care and Rehabilitation in Exeter.
He was born Jan. 1, 1917, in Boston, the son of Thomas B. and Charlotte (Orlowska) Jacunski.
He attended public schools in Boston.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II serving as a first lieutenant in Italy and was an instructor in marksmanship and hand-to-hand combat.
Mr. Jacunski co-founded and later was sole proprietor of Atlas Glass and Mirror Co. in Dover. He had previously worked in the Boston schools as a carpenter and glazier and had served in the Civilian Conservation Corps on public works projects in Danby, Vt.
He was a member and lay preacher at St. John's Methodist Church, Dover.
He received the second annual Dover Area Brotherhood Award in 1966 for his work with local interfaith organizations.
He was a member of the Cochecho Country Club and was an avid golfer and continued to play for many years after being diagnosed with Parkinson's disease.
He is survived by two sons, Richard E. Jacunski of Northwood and Randal F. Jacunski of Center Strafford; and three stepchildren, Pamela Chamberlain of Azle, Tex., Harold Hennequin of Lee Summit, Mo., and Marshall Henniquin of Calais, Maine.
Memorial services will be held Thursday, Oct. 26, at 2 p.m. at SunBridge Care and Rehabilitation, 8 Hampton Road, Exeter.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Parkinson's Disease Foundation, 1250 Hylan Blvd., Suite 4B, Staten Island, NY 10305.

Mary N. Kendall
EXETER — Mary Neal Kendall, 87, of RiverWoods, died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2000, in Exeter Hospital after a brief illness.
She was born Oct. 22, 1912, in York Harbor, Maine, the daughter of Carroll and Marion Neal. She had resided in Rochester before moving to RiverWoods in 1994.
She attended Rochester High School and was a graduate of Wheelock College, Boston.
Mrs. Kendall was chairman of Kendall Insurance Inc. She had previously been a teacher.
She was active and had served as president of the Frisbie Memorial Hospital Auxiliary; was a volunteer for Seacoast Hospice for many years; and was a member of the York Harbor Reading Room.
Mrs. Kendall was an original resident of RiverWoods and was very active in welcoming new residents and in other activities at RiverWoods.
The widow of Kennett R. Kendall, who died in 1979, she is survived by two sons, Kennett R. Kendall Jr. of Durham and Robert N. Kendall of York, Maine; one daughter, Lee K. Moore of Laguna Hills, Calif.; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Dr. John B. Neal of Chula Vista, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held in the Spring in St. Peter's by the Sea, Cape Neddick, Maine.

Marguerite H. Schmidt
EPPING — Marguerite H. Schmidt, 84, died Friday, Oct. 13, 2000, at her home.
She was born Nov. 14, 1915, in Bridgeport, Conn., the daughter of Emmanuel and Tekla (Johnson) Helgren.
She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Paul H. Schmidt of Epping; three daughters, Joan Maruszak of Lakeland, Fla., Donna Roe of Derry and Polly Bowes of Durham; three sons, Timothy Schmidt of Harrison, Maine, Thomas Schmidt of Barton, Vt., and Peter Schmidt of Exeter; 17 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
There are no calling hours. Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.
