James Joseph Doherty
HAMPTON — James Joseph Doherty, 82, died Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2000.
He was born in May 9, 1918 in Winchester, Mass., the son of the late Hugh and Mary Doherty. He was educated in Winchester, and lived for many years in Burlington, Mass., before moving to Hampton in 1969.
While in Burlington, he worked at the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority and the State Road Liquor Store. After his move to New Hampshire, he worked at Hadco Company in Derry until his retirement.
During World War II, Mr. Doherty served in the Army Air Corps as a control tower operator in the Solomon Islands. At the end of the war, he was part of the occupational troops to land in Japan. He received the American Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Campaign Ribbon, WWII Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon, and the Philippine Liberation Medal.
Mr. Doherty was active during the founding years of the Burlington Country Club and was also a member of the Winchester VFW.
He is survived by two daughters, Lorraine Stearns and her husband David of California, and Jeanne Myers and her husband Tom of Hudson; a son, Dennis and his wife Linda of Burlington; two brothers, Hugh of Woburn, Mass. and John of Somerville, Mass.; one sister, Margaret Magennis of Somerville, Mass.; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a dear friend, Joan Brown of Hampton.
He was predeceased by his of 49 1/2 years, Eleanor (Coleman) Doherty, who died in 1990, and by a sister, Theresa Reindeau and a brother, Daniel.
Visiting hours will be held Friday from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., Burlington, Mass. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home Saturday at 8:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Margaret's Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington, at 9:30 a.m. Interment will be in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, Mass. 01701.
Kiernan F. Cox
HAMPTON — Kiernan F. Cox, 83, of 143 Winnacunnet Road, died Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2000 at the Seacoast Health Center after a brief illness.
He was born Nov. 1, 1916 in Brooklyn, N.Y., the son of the late Kiernan and Mary (Quinn) Cox.
Mr. Cox worked as a quality inspector for the American Can Company.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps.
He is survived by two daughters, Judith M. Ambery and her husband Charles of Lee, Mass., and Helene E. Cox-Bracco and her husband Pascal of Hampton Falls; one brother, Patrick Cox of Brooklyn; and two grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife Helen T. (Baker) Cox who died in 1962 and a brother, John Cox.
Calling hours will be held Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Joseph P. Clavin Funeral Home, 7722 4th Ave., Brooklyn. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 10:15 a.m. at Our Lady of the Angels, Brooklyn. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Queens, N.Y.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Families First of the Seacoast Health Center, 100 Campus Drive, Suite 12, Portsmouth, N.H. 03801. Local arrangements are by the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, Hampton.
Margaret M. Gabree
CONCORD — Margaret M. (Peggy) Gabree, 68, of Concord Gardens, died Monday, Oct. 16, 2000 at the Hospice House.
She was born Jan. 2, 1932 in Shanghai, China, the daughter of the late Alexander and Marina (Saltikoff) Simonoff.
Mrs. Gabree was a waitress at Scuffy's in Concord for many years.
She is survived by her son, Edward J. Gabree Sr. of North Hampton; one sister, Alla Murray of Concord; three grandchildren; and one niece and nephew.
She was predeceased by her husband, Edward Gabree.
There will be no calling hours and services will be at the convenience of the family. Burial will be at a later date at the St. Joseph's Cemetery in West Roxbury, Mass.

Martin J. Simko
NORTH HAMPTON — Martin J. Simko, 77, of 21 Grandview Terrace, died Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2000 at the Portsmouth Regional Hospital.
He was born April 30, 1923 in Bridgeport, Conn., the son of the late Martin and Julia (Wargo) Simko. He had resided in North Hampton for the past 37 years, coming from Fairfield, Conn.
Mr. Simko was the owner and operator of Simko Construction for many years.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Marine Corps.
Mr. Simko was also a member of the Abenaqui Country Club in Rye Beach.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Roberta M. (Bristol) Simko; seven daughters, Kathleen Rice of Natick, Mass., Laura Simko of Nova Scotia, Canada, Mary Simko of California, Barbara Erickson of Greensboro, N.C., Christine Erickson of Greenland, and Linda Erickson of North Hampton; one son, Douglas Erickson of Eliot, Maine; one brother, William Simko of Norwalk, Conn.; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Calling hours will be Saturday from noon to 1 p.m. at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Center Cemetery, North Hampton.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, Mass. 01701, or to the American Lung Association, 9 Cedarwood Drive, Bedford, N.H. 03110.
James H. Gordon
EXETER — James H. Gordon of Exeter, died Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2000 after a brief illness.

Marion G. Heighton
EXETER — Marion G. Heighton, 76, of Laperle Avenue, died Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2000 at the Portsmouth Regional Hospital.
She was born June 26, 1924 in Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada, the daughter of the late Murray and Mary (Crane) Dingwall.
Formerly a longtime resident of Lawrence and Andover, Mass., she had resided in Exeter for the past 13 years.
Mrs. Heighton is survived by one son, James "Stan" Heighton of Atlanta, Ga.; two daughters, Pamela Dallaire Hartford of Salem, and Faye Cormier Castonguay of Nottingham; four sisters, Dorothy Sweeney of Bradford, Mass., Shirley Musgrave of Methuen, Mass., Claire Williams of British Columbia, Canada, and Janet McKay of British Columbia, Canada; one brother, Ronald Dingwall of Nova Scotia, Canada; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, James A. Heighton, who died Jan. 26, 2000.
Calling hours will be held Sunday, Oct. 22 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter. Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date in Pine Grove Cemetery in Kingston.
Dorothy S.M. Hayward
SCITUATE, Mass. — Dorothy S.M. Hayward, 77, of Scituate died Monday, Oct. 16, 2000 after a brief illness.
She was born in Brookline, Mass., and had been a resident of Scituate for more than 60 years.
Mrs. Hayward was a homemaker and was active in the Scituate Garden Club for many years and a member of the South Shore Natural Science Center.
Mrs. Hayward is survived by three daughters, Susan H. Donahue and her husband Douglas of Norwell, Mass., Dana Hayward Hooper and her husband Kenneth of North Hampton, and Wendy Hayward of Boston; a son, William D. Hayward of Hull, Mass.; her brother, Henry Shea of Florida; and five grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Edward D. Hayward.
The family will receive friends and relatives Sunday, Oct. 22 from 1 to 3 p.m. at 580 Main St., Norwell, Mass.
