Virginia B. Dowell

PORTSMOUTH — Virginia B. Dowell, 76, of 380 Ocean Road, #20, Portsmouth, and formerly of Hampton, died Friday, Oct. 20, 2000 at Portsmouth Regional Hospital after a lengthy illness.

Formerly of Connecticut, she retired as director of the New Britain Public Library after 25 years of service.

Ms. Dowell is survived by her brother, The Reverend David Blanchard and his wife, Joan, of Andover, Mass.; a sister, Carolyn Woodman of Palm Bay, Fla.; three nephews; two grandnieces; three grandnephews; and her companion of 20 years, Wendy Palmer of Portsmouth.

There are no calling hours and memorial services include the immediate family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to New England Library Association Scholarship Fund, 707 Turnpike St., North Andover, Mass. 01845.

Cards of acknowledgment may be sent to Wendy Palmer, 380 Ocean Blvd., Unit 20, Portsmouth, N.H. 03801.

Arrangements are by the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, Hampton.

Beulah E. Anderson

GREENLAND — Beulah E. Anderson, 87, of 3 Berry Lane, died Sunday, Oct. 22, 2000 at the Sunbridge Care and Rehabilitation in Portsmouth.

She was born Feb. 22, 1913 in Brooklyn, N.Y., the daughter of the late Theodore and Ulrika (Backman) Olson and attended schools in Brooklyn.

She lived in New York until moving to Florida in 1975. She moved to North Hampton in 1994.

Mrs. Anderson was the past president of the United Methodist Women in both Port Jefferson, N.Y. and Brooklyn.

She is survived by a son, Ted Anderson of Florida; a daughter, Joan E. Gilman of Greenland; five grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Harold A. Anderson, who died in 1994.

There will be no visiting hours.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, Oct. 29 at 7 p.m. at the United Church of Christ, 295 Atlantic Ave., North Hampton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the United Church of Christ, 295 Atlantic Ave., North Hampton, N.H. 03862.

Arrangements are by the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, Hampton.

James E. Norton

EXETER — James E. Norton, 57, of High Street, died Monday, Oct. 23, 2000 at his home.

He was born Dec. 4, 1942 in Exeter, the son of the late Richard H. and Catherine (Clough) Norton Sr. He lived in the Newmarket and Exeter area all of his life.

Mr. Norton enjoyed sports and kept score for the adult league baseball games in Exeter.

Mr. Norton is survived by two sisters, Joyce Gagne and her husband Bernard, and Kathleen Shove and her husband Ronald, all of Newmarket.

He was predeceased by his brother, Richard H. Norton Jr. and his sister, Linda Sullivan.

Private graveside services will be held at Riverside Cemetery, Newmarket, at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are by the Kent & Pelczar Funeral Home, Newmarket.

Sonja Schultz Michaels

BEDFORD — Sonja Schultz Michaels, 52, of 30 Maple Drive, died Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2000 after a lengthy illness.

She was born Jan. 21, 1948 in Exeter, the daughter of Glen and Ruby (Eastman) Schultz of Topsham, Vt.

She grew up in Exeter and graduated from Perry Normal School in Boston. She taught more than 2,000 kindergarten students in Bedford and Auburn in a career that spanned 25 years. She was recognized by Parenting New Hampshire as Teacher of the Month for May, 2000.

Aside from her parents, Mrs. Michaels is survived by her husband Dave; her children, Kimberly and James; sisters, Susan Phillips and Marilyn Anderson; and her brother, Kent Schultz.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Oct. 28 at 11 a.m. at Christ Church, Exeter. Interment will follow in Exeter Cemetery.

Flowers are welcome or memorial donations may be made to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, Department of Angiography, Hanover, N.H.

Arrangements are by the Brewitt Funeral Home, Exeter.

Fred J. Sharron

KINGSTON — Fred "Bud" J. Sharron, 70, of Dolliver Lane, died Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2000 at the Exeter Hospital.

He was born Sept. 20, 1930 in Gardner, Mass., the son of the late Frederick and Margaret (Gallagher) Sharron.

Mr. Sharron was formerly of Gardner and Manchester and had been a resident of Kingston since 1969.

He graduated Gardner High School and attended Fitchburg State Technical School.

Mr. Sharron was employed as a police officer in Gardner. He was also president of DayStar Solar, which is a division of Exxon in Burlington, Mass., and was a partner at Northeast Metal Spinning in Hampstead.

He attended St. Michael Church in Exeter and was a member of the Exeter Walking Group.

In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing.

Mr. Sharron is survived by his wife, Nancy (Szopa) Sharron of Kingston; four children, James Sharron of Greenwich, Conn., JoAnne Sharron of Manchester, Kenneth Brown and his wife Tamera of Cleveland, Ohio, and Julie Brown of Boston, Mass.; two brothers, Cornelius Sharron of Worthington, Mass., and Charles Sharron of Florida; his mother-in-law, Natalie Szopa of Manchester; one granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, Oct. 27 at 11 a.m. at St. Michael Church, Exeter. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Kingston.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Seacoast Hospice, 10 Hampton Road, Exeter, N.H. 03833 or the Rockingham V.N.A. & Hospice, 137 Epping Road, Exeter, N.H. 03833.
