Lyla I. Harris

HAMPTON FALLS — Lyla I. Harris, 71, of 110 Lafayette Road, died Monday, July 24, 2000, at her home.

She was born Feb. 19, 1929, in Portsmouth, the daughter of Catherine B. Cyr. She was raised in Portsmouth and resided many years in Hampton before moving to Hampton Falls in 1982.

She was a 1946 graduate of Portsmouth High School.

Mrs. Harris was a school bus driver for Berry Transportation for several years. She also worked for the former First National Store and the Dunfey Corporation in Hampton and for the former North Hampton Pharmacy.

She was an avid bingo player and a fan of youth sports, sometimes driving her children's and grandchildren's team buses. She enjoyed spending time at her summer home in Wolfeboro and at her cabin in Upper Dam, Maine.

She is survived by her husband of 27 years, Richard A. Harris; two sons, Richard J. Kidd and his wife Jacqueline of Hampton Falls and Dennis T. Kidd of Portsmouth; two daughters and their husbands, Dianne L. and John Jordan of Hampton and Donna M. and Vince Toland of Manchester; one stepson and his wife, Nathaniel J. and Heidi Harris of Ipswich, Mass.; one stepdaughter and her husband, Lydia and Michael Forehand of Haverhill, Mass.; eight grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Funeral services were held Thursday in the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, Hampton. Burial was in High Street Cemetery, Hampton.

Memorial donations may be made to Seacoast Hospice, 10 Hampton Road, Exeter, NH 03833; Seacoast Visiting Nurses Association, 29 Lafayette Road, North Hampton, NH 03862; or to the Shriner's Burns Institute, 51 Blossom St., Boston, MA 02114.

Harry B. Knox

NORTH HAMPTON — Harry B. Knox, 79, died Wednesday, July 26, 2000, at Edgewood Centre, Portsmouth, after a brief illness.

He was born Aug. 29, 1920, in Concord, the son of the late Elmer B. and Gladys (Murby) Knox. He resided in Allenstown for 37 years before moving to Exeter and North Hampton.

He was a graduate of Pembroke Academy, Pembroke, and the University of New Hampshire.

Mr. Knox worked for the Rockingham County Extension Service in 4-H Youth Development retiring in 1987 after 35 years of service.

He attended Hampton Falls Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Louise E. (Margeson) Knox of North Hampton; one daughter and her husband, Elizabeth A. and Rodney E. Sparkowich of Portland, Maine; one son, Brian E. Knox of Hooksett; three grandchildren; one aunt; three cousins; a former daughter-in-law, Cheryl Smith of North Hampton; a foster family, Paul and Suzie Chevrette of Allenstown; four foster grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Phyllis Margeson of Exeter.

Calling hours will be held Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in Hampton Falls Baptist Church with the Rev. Kenneth Lawrence officiating. Burial will follow in Kenison Cemetery, Allenstown.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Knox Scholarship Fund, c/o Rockingham County 4-H Foundation, 113 North Road, Brentwood, NH 03833-6623.

Beatrice McCarthy

SEABROOK BEACH — Beatrice "Beadie" McCarthy, 82, of Ashland Street, died Wednesday, July 26, 2000, at her home.

She was born Jan. 6, 1918, in Lowell, Mass., the daughter of John J. and Marguerite (Baird) McCarthy and had resided in Seabrook Beach since 1985.

Miss McCarthy was a technician at Raytheon Electronics in Waltham, Mass., retiring in 1982 after 25 years of service.

She was a communicant of St. Elizabeth Church, Seabrook Beach; a member of the Seabrook Women's Club; and the Seabrook Senior Citizens.

She enjoyed arts and crafts.

She is survived by one sister, Frances M. Mello of Seabrook Beach, with whom she made her home; one niece; one nephew; three grand nieces and three grand nephews.

She was predeceased by one brother, John J. McCarthy, who died in 1991; and one brother-in-law, James A. Mello, who died in 1999.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at noon in St. Elizabeth Church, Route 1A, Seabrook Beach. Friends may call at the church from 11:15 a.m. until the hour of the service. Cremation will follow and burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Esther M. Place

IPSWICH, Mass. — Esther M. (Beeman) Place, 71, died Sunday, July 23, 2000, in Beverly Hospital, Beverly, Mass.

She was born April 8, 1929, in Gloucester, Mass., the daughter of the late William and Bertha (Ellery) Beeman.

She was educated in Gloucester schools.

Mrs. Place enjoyed her family and traveling and was an avid bingo and card player.

The widow of Vernon I. Place, she is survived by five sons and three daughters-in-law, William and Karen Place of Beverly, Mass., Robert and Mary Place of Gloucester, Kevin and Mary Ann Place of Essex, Mass., Danny Place of Salisbury, Mass., and Scott Place of Exeter; one daughter and her husband, Betty Jane and Vincent Cassidy of Hampton; nine grandchildren; one sister, Edith Carr of Ipswich; one brother, Dave Beeman of Ipswich; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by one sister, Rachel Levielle; and three brothers, William, Robert and Kenneth Beeman.

Graveside services were held Thursday in Locust Grove Cemetery, Lanesville, Mass.

Memorial donations may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 129 Morgan Drive, Norwood, MA 02062.

Arrangements were by the James C. Greely Funeral Home, Gloucester.
