    Dolores Barrett Lovejoy

    PORTSMOUTH — Funeral services for Dolores Barrett Lovejoy, 75, were held at J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel on Wednesday. Pastor Roland Kimball officiated. Words of remembrance and poems were given by granddaughters Stacy Cullipher and Kristy Glidden.

    Burial was in Central Cemetery in Rye, with committal services by Pastor Kimball. Bearers were Jamie Chambers, Jay Smith, Jared Smith, James Rekasis, Kevin Van Etten and Rick Kennedy.

    Catherine C. Ahearn

    PORTSMOUTH — Catherine C. Ahearn, 83, formerly of 132 Chapel St. and 280 McKinley Road, died Monday, Jan. 8, 2001, at the Mark Wentworth Home after a long period of failing health.

    Born in Portsmouth on Dec. 20, 1917, she was the daughter of Edward J. and Nora (Bluett) Ahearn. She was a graduate of St. Patrick School; Portsmouth High School, Class of 1935, where she received the Haven Medal for Latin; and the University of New Hampshire, Class of 1939, where she was a member of the Khi Omega Sorority.

    From the onset of World War II until her retirement, she was employed in the comptroller's office at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.

    She was a member of the Church of the Immaculate Conception and a former member of the Wentworth Fairways and the Portsmouth Hospital Guild.

    Survivors include two brothers, James N. Ahearn and his wife, Lucille, of South Portland, Maine; Thomas P. Ahearn of Portsmouth; one sister, Jackie Gillespie, and her husband, Jim, of South Portland, Maine; and many devoted nieces, nephews and grandnephews.

    AHEARN — Catherine C. Ahearn, 83, formerly of 132 Chapel St. and 280 McKinley Road, died Jan. 8, 2001. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. on Wednesday at the Church of the Immaculate Conception. No visiting hours. Family flowers only, please. Memorials may be made to the Mark Wentworth Home Social Activities Fund, 346 Pleasant St., Portsmouth, N.H. 03801 or to the charity of one's choice. Arrangements by the Farrell Funeral Home, 684 State St., Portsmouth.

    Giacomo Rossi

    EXTER — Giacomo "Jack" Rossi, 87, of Exeter Rose Farms, died suddenly Monday, Jan. 8, 2001, at his home.

    He was born May 6, 1913, in Dover, the son of the late Battista and Rosina (Iamarta) Rossi.

    He resided in Exeter for more than 60 years, having been employed as a rose grower for Exeter Rose Farms, which was owned and operated by the Dagostino family.

    He was a communicant of St. Michael's Church in Exeter.

    He was predeceased by his wife, Carolina "Lena" (Dagostino) Rossi, who died in 1969; his brother, John Rossi; and two sisters, Theresa Wooten and Magdalena Rossi.

    He is survived by his daughter Evelyn Dimock and her husband, Neve, of Stratham; two grandsons, N. Nathan Dimock of Washington, D.C., and Cyrus Dimock of Dover; three sisters, Josephine Gutjahr of Flanders, N.J., Lena Bohley of Rochester and Edith McManus of Dover; one brother, Louis Rossi of Somersworth; and several nieces and nephews.

    Frances May Whittemore Haigh

    PORTSMOUTH — Frances May Whittemore Haigh was born in September 1911, at home in Portsmouth. She was the daughter of George and Marion Whittemore. She graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1929, where she was a member of the Debating Club.

    She worked for the Molly Button Factory and married James E. Haigh in 1935. She and her husband raised four children, Barry W. of Plainfield, N.J.; Bruce W. of Sinking Spring, Pa.; Brian W. and Barbara Jean McMahon, both of Doylestown, Pa.

    She and her husband and children moved to Oreland, Pa., where she lived until her husband died in 1980. She then moved to Hillsboro, Texas, with her son and daughter-in-law, Barry and Eileen Haigh. While in Hillsboro, she was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Monday Review Club, Garden Club, Volunteer for Bond's Alley and First Ms. Late Bloomer. She was a founding member of the Corsican Street Late Bloomer's Fourth of July Parade and a member of the Hill County Republican Women's Club.

    She moved to New Jersey in 1992. While in Plainfield, N.J., she was active as a member and past president of the North Plainfield Women's Club, a member of AARP, and a member of First Presbyterian Church. She moved to the New Jersey Eastern Star Home, where she died, in July.

    She is survived by three daughters-in-law, Eileen, Joanne and Nori; one son-in-law, Ed; seven grandchildren, Barbara Ann Hoeppner, Kristine Anne Stevens, James Edward, Robert Brian, Amanda Jo, Heather and Kevin Haigh; five great-grandchildren, Robert and Drew Hoeppner, Harley Michael Haigh, Dakota Seth and Cheyenne Brittany Stevens.

    Graveside services will be announced in the spring.

    Edna Frances Blaisdell

    YORK, Maine — Edna Frances (Barmby) (Jordan) Blaisdell, 75, of 7 Little River Drive, died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, in the Falmouth By The Sea Nursing Home.

    Born Oct. 20, 1925, in Lawrence, Mass., she was the daughter of Francis Norton and Mildred Ethel (Blaisdell) Barmby. She graduated from L.D. Batchelder School in North Reading, Mass., Reading High School, the University of Maine in Orono and Framingham (Mass.) State Teacher's College, Class of 1948, with a B.S. in Education.

    She was a 4-H Club agent for Merrimack County in New Hampshire and for Orange County in Vermont. She was also a home economics teacher in Georgetown, Mass.

    She belonged to Pi Beta Phi sorority and many professional organizations. In retirement, she enjoyed birding and was a member of local, state and national wildlife associations. She and her husband, John, made numerous trips to local wildlife refuges, as well as trips to Florida and Texas, as part of their interest in birding.

    She was predeceased by two husbands, Arden Oliver Jordan and John Stewart Blaisdell.

    Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, David Arden and Linda (Montague) Jordan of Gray; grandchildren, Tamarind Arden Jordan of Providence, R.I.; Laurel Kelsey Jordan and Arden Birch Jordan, both of Gray; brothers, Albert R. Barmby of Huntsville, Ala., and Bruce A. Barmby of Windmere, Fla.; sister, B. Jean Barmby of Boca Raton, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews in Alabama and Georgia.

    BLAISDELL — Edna F. Blaisdell, 75, of 7 Little River Drive, York, Maine, died Jan. 6, 2001. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday in St. George's Episcopal Church, York Street, York Harbor. There will be an hour of visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Lucas and Eaton Funeral Home, 91 Long Sands Road, York. Flowers are welcome or memorial donations may be made to a wildlife refuge center of one's choice.

    Gertrude Allessi

    KITTERY, Maine — Gertrude Allessi, 87, of Eliot Road, died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2001, at York Hospital.

    Born on June 4, 1913, in Bath, she was the daughter of Leroy and Minnie (Ambrose) Shea. She was a 1933 graduate of R.W. Traip Academy in Kittery.

    She was married in 1934 to her husband of over 30 years, Nazzareno Alessi. They built their home on Eliot Road and raised their family there.

    She was a devoted gardener and enjoyed bowling in two women's leagues, The Merry Mixers and the Coffee Breakers.

    Her first love was her family. As a devoted mother and grandmother, she enjoyed her family and watching them grow.

    She is survived by her children, a daughter, Gloria, and her husband, Forrest Young, of Eliot; sons, Robert Allessi and his wife, Joan, of Kittery; and David Allessi and his wife, Joann, of Cape Neddick; a sister, Mary Coursin, and her husband, Ray, of Blairsville, Ga.; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

    She was predeceased by her husband, an infant daughter and her brother, Leroy W. Shea Jr.

    ALESSI — Gertrude M. Alessi, 87, of Eliot Road, Kittery, Maine, died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2001, at York Hospital. A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday from St. John's Episcopal Church in Portsmouth, N.H. Friends and family may call from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Road, U.S. Route 1 Bypass, Kittery. Family flowers only. Donations may be made in her memory to the Lukemia Society of American, 2900 Eisenhower Ave., Ste. 419, Alexandria, Va. 22314. Arrangements by J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Road, Kittery, Maine 03904.

    PHILLIPS — James E. Phillips III, of 20 Kentville Terrace, Hampton, died Jan. 8, 2001. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the Remick and Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory of Hampton.
