Nancy Cicco covers City Hall, the Portsmouth Police Department and the New Hampshire National Guard for the Portsmouth Herald. She has worked for Seacoast Newspapers since 1998.
From 1998-2000, she first served as a reporter and then as the editor of the weekly Rockingham News, one of the Herald's sister papers which covers southern New Hampshire.
In 1999, after her first year as a full-time reporter, the New Hampshire Press Association (NHPA) awarded her its rookie of the Year Award.
During her tenure as editor of the Rockingham News, the New England Press Association (NEPA) honored the publication with a first-place, general-excellence award as the best weekly paper in New England for it's circulation class.
From 2000-2003, she served as a municipal reporter covering York, Maine, first for the Portsmouth Herald, and then the York Weekly. She re-joined the Portsmouth Herald staff in 2003.
Nancy has received New Hampshire Press Association (NHPA), Maine Press Association (MPA) and New England Press Association (NEPA) awards for her news, feature, history, business, and investigative writing.
In 2002, she shared in a staff award presented to the York Weekly from the MPA, which honored the paper with a first place award for the best coverage of September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, among newspapers in the York Weekly's circulation class.
In 2003, she shared in another staff award from the MPA honoring the York Weekly with a first place general-excellence award as the best weekly paper in its circulation class.
Nancy began reporting as a free-lance writer in 1997 for the daily Sun in Lowell, MA, while studying toward a certificate in paralegal studies at the University of Massachusetts at Lowell. Before becoming a reporter, she worked as a public relations agent and fund-raiser in Massachusetts. Nancy graduated summa cum laude from Wheaton College in Norton, MA with a bachelor of arts degree in writing and literature in 1984.
Nancy was born and raised in Chelmsford, MA. She loves hockey, history, rock 'n' roll and hanging out at the beach.
