Play calls attention to struggles of literary women

Five local gifted women used their acting prowess to resurrect the voices of some of the most relevant women writers in history during a performance of "A Voice of My Own," a 1979 play by playwright Elinor Jones. The play, the most recent to grace the stage of the Garrison Players Arts Center, addresses the dramatic history of female writers from 600 BC through the 20th century, specifically with regard to how their literary voices were either accepted or not.

From Nov. 15 to Dec. 3, students will collect clean, useable items that will keep people warm this winter.

UNH professor releases economic outlook

The New England region will see modest overall economic growth and continued slow employment recovery from the early 2000 recession through 2008, with education and health services, leisure and hospitality, and professional and business services forecasted to be the fastest growing sectors in the region, according to Ross Gittell, professor of management at the University of New Hampshire Whittemore School of Business and Economics, who recently released the New England Economic Outlook.
Jewelry designer to donate portion of sales to cancer center

Panty hose: can't pull 'em up, can't keep 'em up
My friend Millie asked if I was going to wear a dress or skirt to the theater, and I laughingly told her that I hadn't worn either of those in years. This morning I was dressing to go to the senior fair at Frisbie Memorial Hospital and, when I opened my closet, prepared to stand there for 10 minutes wailing that I had absolutely nothing to wear, I spotted a line-up of skirts and jumpers hanging in the back looking totally dejected.

Cub Scout packs of Dover held a sign-up night for boys in first through fifth grades on Oct. 20 at the Horne Street School. Packs 172, 173 and 180 participated in the sign-up night.
Each pack had a chance to show their scouting programs to boys and their parents.
