Fiddlehead Farms offers variety of foodstuffs
11/26/04 - Dover residents looking for fresh food and veggies now have a new alternative to large, chain supermarkets. Fiddlehead Farms, a new grocery store that opened last month, offers shoppers fresh, locally grown produce, baked goods, meat and deli products from local companies.

WOKQ talks turkey for food bank

11/26/04 - WOKQ 97.5 FM, based in Dover, and Irving Mainway Convenience Stores, collected 1,342 turkeys and $4,482 in cash and check donations for the New Hampshire Food Bank during WOKQ's Turkey Drop. Residents and WOKQ listeners were asked to drop off a turkey at any of the 40 Irving Mainway stations throughout New Hampshire.

Local organization's fund-raising event recalls Old West

11/26/04 - It wasn't a rodeo, a hoe-down, or a barn raising, but there were plenty of people sporting chaps, cowboy boots, and 10-gallon hats at Dover City Hall on Friday, Nov. 19. The occasion was Dover Main Street's second annual live and silent auction and Taste of Dover event.

Shriners hold tree 'fez'tival this weekend

11/26/04 - Bektash Shriners of Concord will be hosting the 4th annual Christmas tree festival through Nov. 28, at the Shriners Center, 189 Pembroke Road, Concord. It will be open Friday and Saturday, Nov. 26 and 27, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sunday, Nov. 28, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. All proceeds will benefit the Bektash Shrine Center.

Favorite masks announced by gallery

11/26/04 - Visitors to the Masks of October exhibit at the Franklin Gallery, Ben Franklin Crafts of Somersworth, voted for their three favorite artists during the month-long exhibit. One hundred eighty-nine ballots were cast, and the winners chosen from 13 participating Southern Maine/Seacoast New Hampshire artists, were tabulated on Halloween night.

People must pass a test to work with seniors
I am going to propose legislation that will prohibit anyone under the age of 60 from becoming an activity director at an assisted living home, a senior center or any other organization/housing/location where seniors gather. Now before some of my dear friends who are so employed come ready to hang me from the nearest tree, I would make some exceptions including requiring the person to have intimate knowledge and understanding of what it is like to be old.

11/26/04 - The Dover Soccer Club U-12 girls played in the New Hampshire Soccer Association U-12 Division 1 Girls Fall Tournament Championships against Derry on Nov. 6 in Rochester. Going into overtime tied 2-2, the team fell down 2-1 during penalty kicks.

A number of such lamps and nightlights manufactured and sold today with cartoon-like designs may have a toy-like appearance. As such, these lights are attractive to children, who may see them as toys.

Hospital program saves families more than $2M
11/26/04 - Wentworth-Douglass Hospital passed the $2 million mark in drug-cost savings for low-income families in 34 local communities through its Medication Bridge Program. The program works with pharmaceutical companies and families to access retail prescription drugs free of charge or with a small co-pay.

Measured Progress sponsors annual blood drive Dec. 3

11/26/04 - Area residents can get in the spirit of giving - and feast on Newick's chowder - by donating blood on Friday, Dec. 3. Measured Progress will join with the Loyal Order of Moose, the Ladies of the Moose, and the American Red Cross to sponsor the blood drive from 12 to 5 p.m. at the Dover Moose Hall on Chestnut Street. The event will mark Measured Progress's 11th year of blood drive sponsorship.

Seacoast outright recieves peer facilitation grant

11/26/04 - Seacoast Outright, a Portsmouth non-profit organization that works with and on behalf of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning youth and their allies, aged 21 and under, recently received notification that they have been awarded a $4,650 grant for their peer facilitation program from the Clark Family Fund, a charitable giving partnership of the Greater Piscataqua Community Foundation.
