Locals build church, relationships in Cambodia
12/10/04 - Thirteen members of Dover Baptist Church (as part of a larger group of 28 total members from nationwide locations) traveled to Cambodia in November on a mission trip to help a congregation build a church in the village of Seung, in the city of Sisophon.

Temple Israel celebrates move to new location

12/10/04 - Temple Israel, located since the late 1930s on Fourth St. in Dover, has moved to its new location at 515 Sixth St. The change was precipitated by an increasing congregation, currently comprising 150 families, which proved too large for the smaller Fourth Street space.

Coalition breakfast to address substance abuse in the workplace

12/10/04 - The Dover Coalition for Youth, a prevention-based organization coordinated by the Dover Police Department, will host a Breakfast Workshop from 7:30 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 17, at the Wentworth-Douglass Hospital Auditorium in Dover.

New classes kick off at language center

12/10/04 - Conversational Spanish, French, Russian, Italian, Portuguese, German, Swahili and English as a Second Language (ESL) classes will start the week of Dec. 13 at the New England Language Center in Rochester. Some classes are offered in Portsmouth.

Franklin Gallery announces new exhibit

Although heavy rains caused event planners to postpone the parade until Monday evening at 6 - posing challenges like fewer volunteers, heavy traffic, safety concerns, and fewer participants - thousands of folks, in traditional Dover holiday spirit, participated in, planned, or watched the parade's sounds and sights fill downtown.

Shopping trip brings on the holiday spirit
I promised I would be more positive so here goes. I had the most wonderful day today. I picked up my mother in Chelmsford and we met my sister at the Pheasant Lane Mall to do some Christmas shopping. Actually, what we do is take our mother to Macy's and turn her loose, and then my sister and I pick up some items for our families.

Hospital announces plans for dental center
12/10/04 - Wentworth-Douglass Hospital will open a Community Dental Center for low-income, uninsured and underinsured residents living in the hospital's service area by next summer. At its October meeting, the WDH Board of Trustees approved more than $500,000 from its Community Benefit Funds to support the renovation of hospital-owned property at 668 Central Ave. in Dover to house the dental center.

Health center selling Community Cookbook

12/10/04 - Avis Goodwin Community Health Center (AGCHC) of Dover and Rochester has completed their Community Cookbook. AGCHC, a non-profit agency that takes care of the uninsured, is now taking advance sales. Supplies are limited.
