Police nab alleged car-part thief in the act

KINGSTON - A Massachusetts man was arrested last week in connection with what police describe as a case of ongoing burglaries, which appear to be targeting a local car shop.

Sandro Carrasquillo, 30, of Everett, Mass., was discovered by police allegedly burglarizing Hit Cars.com, a car dealership that sells parts and automobiles that have been salvaged from an accident. Carrasquillo was arrested at the business, located at 2 Main St., and charged with one count of burglary and one count of resisting arrest.

According to police, Capt. James Champion and Cpl. Scott Peltier were finishing up their evening shift just before midnight on Dec. 9, when the officers spotted a suspicious vehicle parked by the town’s highway garage and went to investigate.

As they approached, a man described by police as wearing a dark stocking cap and a black hooded jacket was spotted at the car shop next door and a second man was seen fleeing the scene.

According to police reports, Champion called out "stop ... police," and Carrasquillo, who was still at the scene, began to run toward his vehicle.

He was apprehended by police, however, and is being held on $10,000 cash surety at the Rockingham County Jail in Brentwood.

The second suspect remains at large, despite a lengthy police search of the area with the assistance of Plaistow Police’s K-9, Striker.

Police believe that Carrasquillo may have a connection to several burglaries that have recently occurred at the car shop.

"There have been a number of thefts at this business over the last several months," Briggs said. "We believe there may be a connection."

Briggs said the burglaries remain under active investigation.
