Albert W. Sirois
SOUTH DAYTONA, Fla. - Albert Walker Sirois, of South Daytona, died Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005, at Florida Memorial Hospital, with family members by his side, after a courageous battle with mesothelioma lung cancer.
He was born on Feb. 3, 1943, in Boston and lived in Farmington and Portsmouth, N.H., until his retirement, when he moved with his wife, Linda, to South Daytona in October 2003.
He served in the U.S. Navy for four years and retired after 25 years from the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in 1994, and he was later employed with Saint Theresa Catholic Parish in Rye, N.H.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 23 years, Linda; his mother and father, Albert and Louise Haskell of Daytona Beach; his daughter, Heidi Cowoski and her two daughters, Cherise and Hannah, of Port Orange; his daughter, Holly (Derek) Lucia of Loudon, N.H.; his sister, Cynthia (George) Scott of Daytona Beach; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Donna and Ronald Fabian of Dover, N.H.; his niece and nephew, Christine and Stephen Fabian of Dover, N.H.; his aunt, Priscilla Couture of Rochester, N.H.; and his devoted pets, Eloise and Domino.
WE REMEMBER: He was a member of the Portsmouth Elks Lodge 97, where he served as exalted ruler from 1993 to 1994 and was a trustee thereafter, and a member of the Masons, Strafford Lodge 29 of Dover.
He was a loving husband, son, father, brother and a best friend to a world of people. His whole life revolved around helping others, never asking for a return favor. He enjoyed kayaking, bicycling, golfing and spending time with his family.
SERVICES: A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4, at the Cardwell & Maloney Funeral Home, 3571 Ridgewood Ave., Port Orange, Fla. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Cocheco Valley Humane Society, 262 County Farm Road, Dover, NH 03820; or to the Florida Hospital Memorial Foundation-Nursing Excellence, 770 W. Granada Unit 205, Ormond Beach, FL 32174.
Eleanor N. Murray
GREENLAND - Eleanor N. Murray, 80, of 945 Portsmouth Ave., formerly of Elwyn Road in Portsmouth, died Sunday, Dec. 25, 2005, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital.
Born in Concord on June 6, 1925, she was the daughter of Fred and Mabel (Glidden) Nash. She was a graduate of Concord High School and had been a resident of Portsmouth for more than 50 years.
Mrs. Murray was employed for many years in the area as a home health aide.
The widow of George L. Murray, who died in 2002, she is survived by two daughters, Diane Thibodeau and husband Troy of Greenland, with whom she resided, and Barbara Deblois of Loudon; five grandchildren, Kelsy, Kyle and Cole Thibodeau, James Swancott and Cheryl Pescinski; and six greatgrandchildren.
She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Tammy Swancott.
SERVICES: Visiting hours will be held Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Farrell Funeral Home, 684 State St., Portsmouth. A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Esther P. Levasseur
ROCHESTER - Esther P. Levasseur, 89, a resident of Rochester and formerly of Sanford and Wells, Maine, died Thursday, Dec. 29, 2005, at the Rochester Manor after a brief illness.
She was born in Sanford, Maine, on Nov. 3, 1916, a daughter of Frank and Margaret (Connely) Porell. She attended St. Joseph’s Convent of South Berwick and graduated from Sanford High School, Class of 1934.
She worked as a mender at the Goodall Mills of Sanford for more than 25 years.
She married Yvair B. Levasseur on Oct. 28, 1944.
Ester worked with her husband as an upholsterer and teaching a night class in upholstery at the Sanford Adult Education.
Esther was a lifelong communicant of St. Ignatius Parish in Sanford until moving to Wells in 1975. Since then and until her illness in 2003 she was a parishioner of St. Mary’s Church and active in the Sodality, Rosary and Widows Group.
She was predeceased by her husband, Yvair B Levasseur, who died in 1991; and her brother, Lester Porell.
She is survived by her son, Thomas F. Levasseur and his wife, Jeanine F.; two grandsons, Ryan T. and Brenton M. Levasseur, all of Somersworth; and a cousin, Sheila Palmer of Sanford, Maine.
WE REMEMBER: At the Rochester Manor, she was a member of the Red Hat Society and Residents group. She enjoyed walking 10 miles per day, swimming and jazzercise.
SERVICES: A funeral Mass will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church on Eldredge Road in Wells, Maine. Interment will be in Ocean View Cemetery in Wells in the spring. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her honor to the Rochester Manor Residents Group, 40 Whitehall Road, Rochester, NH 03867 (332-7711). HAMPTON - Vassilia "Pat" (Diamond) Polychronis, 80, of 8 Dumas Ave., Hampton, died Thursday morning, Dec. 29, 2005, at Exeter Hospital.
