Gregory Alan Kimball
LAKE MARY, Fla. — Gregory Alan Kimball, 50, formerly a resident of south Eliot, Maine, died on March 30, 2007, at his home in Florida.
Born in Newburyport, Mass., on March 16, 1956, he was the son of Bernard F. and Janet M. (Shapleigh) Kimball. He was raised in south Eliot and attended local schools; he graduated from Marshwood High School with the Class of 1974. He participated and performed for four years in marching band, concert band and dance band, and was a student conductor.
Greg worked during the day at various auto dealerships as a parts manager, including NAPA, Goodwin Chevrolet in York, Maine and Ed Burnes in Dover, N.H.
Greg and his former wife, Karen, were married for 20 years, residing in Eliot and the Berwicks in Maine before moving to Florida, where Greg continued loving his music and working as an auto parts manager.
Survivors include his uncle, Mr. Frederick A. Shapleigh Jr. of Eliot; his uncle, John Shapleigh of Bakersfield, Calif.; his former wife, Karen (Huntress) of Dover; and his cousins, Mrs. Barbara Dubois of South Berwick, Maine, Mrs. Mary Hoyt of Newfields, N.H., and Mr. Jeff Shapleigh of Montpelier, Vt.
WE REMEMBER: He enjoyed baseball and Corvette cars, but his greatest love was music. His music teacher, Mr. Rod Grondin, was a tremendous influence in Greg's music studies, and at age 18, Greg became a member of Rod's four-piece band, The Rhythm Kings, and spent a number of years with the Dominos and Raven. He played his tenor saxophone every Saturday night plus at many weddings and private parties. This, coupled with intense private instruction, were where Greg truly tuned his talents on the saxophone. He was a great fan of Boots Randolph and became well known for playing one of Boots' favorite hits, "Yakety Sax." Greg was also a member of the band, Ray Roy and the Twilighters, which played regularly at numerous clubs and functions.
SERVICES: A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Road, Kittery, ME 03904. Friends may visit with Greg's family from 10 to 11 a.m. before the service at the funeral home. Burial will take place next to his parents in Eliot. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Marshwood Music Boosters, c/o David Graichen, Marshwood High School, 260 Route 236, South Berwick, ME 03908. Arrangements are entrusted to the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home of Kittery.
